Korea convenience store glossary
The glossary defines the words that decide what each answer on Korea Convenience Store Guide covers, from card reloads to reference dates.
Each definition follows the wording of the source it cites, rewritten in plain language.
- Convenience store
- A small shop selling food, drinks and daily goods. Tourism guides describe services such as ATMs and package delivery at some stores.
- Transport card
- A reloadable prepaid card for buses, subways and shops that accept it, used without a bank account.
- Reload (top-up)
- Putting money onto a prepaid card. It is a separate step from buying the card and from paying with it.
- Reload sign
- A sign or sticker with a card’s name at a store. A 2021 tourism guide said reloading was available only where it was shown.
- Cash machine (ATM)
- A machine placed in a store for withdrawing cash. Its card logos, fees and hours appear on the machine itself.
- Microwave-safe marking
- A marking on food packaging showing the container is made for microwave use. Food-safety guidance says to check it when buying.
- Commercial-district store file
- A public file from the Small Enterprise and Market Service listing stores in operation nationwide with name, industry code, addresses and coordinates.
- Industry code

- 1330 Korea Travel Helpline
- The Korea Tourism Organization helpline, +82-2-1330, answering in eight languages.
