Korea Convenience Store Guide

Are all convenience stores in Korea open all night?

Published

You cannot assume every convenience store in Korea is open all night; check the opening notice of the branch you plan to use.

A 2021 tourism guide described convenience stores as open 24/7, but that sentence describes stores in general. The public store file used for locations has no opening-hours field at all.

Where are a Korean convenience store’s opening hours shown?

On the branch itself, usually as a notice on the door. Public datasets used on this site do not carry hours.

The Small Enterprise and Market Service’s store file lists business name, industry code and name, lot and road addresses, longitude and latitude. It describes itself as data on stores in operation nationwide, which tells you a store was registered as trading on the file’s reference date. It says nothing about the hours on a given night.

Where does the idea that Korean convenience stores are 24-hour come from?

From general descriptions such as the Korea Tourism Organization’s 2021 shopping guide, which said stores were open on a 24/7 basis.

That guide was last updated on 6 October 2021 and carries its own warning that information may have changed. Korea Convenience Store Guide keeps it as a historical description and does not use it as proof that a particular branch opens at night.

In what order should you check a convenience store’s hours?

Use public data to find stores near where you will be, then confirm the hours at the branch itself.

What makes convenience store hours differ in Korea?

The sources used here do not give reasons. They only show that hours are a branch-level fact.

Korea Convenience Store Guide does not guess why a store closes early or opens late. It records how much time information each source holds, so that you know which one to trust for which question.

How do you find an open convenience store near your lodging late at night?

Note two or three nearby stores in daylight, read their door notices, and keep the one with posted late hours as your first choice.

A registered location from a public file is a starting point only, because the file is updated in batches and a store can close between editions. The posted notice you read yourself is closer to the truth for that night.

How current is the convenience store location data?

The store file used here is the 30 June 2026 edition, registered on 5 August 2026, with the next registration scheduled for 31 October 2026.

The file has not been downloaded and checked yet, so no store counts appear on this site. Once collected, each figure will carry the file’s reference date rather than the date it was retrieved.

What can opening-hours guidance not tell you about a convenience store?

Holiday changes, temporary closures and unstaffed hours at a particular branch.

None of the sources lists them branch by branch. Read the branch notice when you arrive, and treat a store that is not answering the door as closed for that night.

What else do people ask about Korea convenience store opening hours?

What if a convenience store shows no 24-hour sign?

Read the posted hours on the door. Without a notice, ask the staff when the branch closes.

Does a registered store in the public file mean it is open?

It means it was registered as trading on the file’s reference date. Hours and later closures are not in the file.

Are hours the same on public holidays?

The sources used here do not say. Check the branch notice on the day.

How do I check unstaffed hours?

Look for a notice at the entrance. Public data does not record whether or when a branch runs unstaffed.

The data date and my visit date differ. What do I trust?

Trust what the branch posts on the day of your visit. Public files describe their own reference date only.
